Dear Reader,

In this Sunday's Gospel (Matthew 5:13-16), Jesus speaks words that are both simple and deeply reassuring:

"You are the salt of the earth.... you are the light of the world."

Jesus does not say you should be or you might become -- He says you are. Right where you are, in the midst of our ordinary days, God is already at work through us.

Often, we think that faith has to be loud or extraordinary. But Jesus reminds us that his light shines through the small, faithful acts: the kindness, patience and love lived consistently.

Mother Teresa reminds us "Spread love everywhere you go: first of all, in your own house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next-door neighbor... Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting."

Let God's light shine through our lives -- right where He has placed us.
