An Advent Reflection with the O Antiphons

Hello Reader,

As we enter the final days of Advent, the Church invites us into a deeper longing through the ancient prayers known as the O Antiphons. These prayers are prayed each evening from December 17-23, the short invocations name the many titles of Christ and echo the cry of our hearts: Come, Lord Jesus.

Each antiphon reveals who Christ is -- and who He longs to be for us right now. We will be highlighting these on our social media pages for you to follow along.

ADVENT REFLECTIONS

In these holy days of waiting, we are reminded that Advent is not about perfect preparation, but about making room. The O Antiphons give voice to our longing -- longing for wisdom, freedom, healing, light, and presence. Christ comes not because we are ready, but because we need Him.

LOOKING AHEAD ...

There are now two options for the Power of a Praying Mother retreat. The first will be in Gering, NE at Christ the King Catholic Church on January 23-24. The next will be in Central City, NE at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. We would love to have you join us for one of these great events! Reply to this email and I will get you in touch with the parish coordinators for more information.

Lent is right around the corner, shortly after the Christmas season. The Lenten Encounter Event will be on Sunday night, February 15th. Mallory Smyth will be the virtual guest speaker!

The encounter events are always a great way to step away from the busyness of life and come together for a night of growing in Faith and building community. We hope you can join us again for the Lenten Encounter Event.

As we continue this season of expectation, may we bring Him our unfinished hearts, our hopes, and our quiet prayers. He is already on the way.

With peace and prayers as we await His coming at Christmas,

Natalie

Easter Book Pick

Living Easter: 50 Days to Practice Resurrection

by Laura Kelly Fanucci

Living Easter will help you fulfill the vision of St. John Paul II, who said, “We are an Easter people, and Alleluia is our song!”

As the most significant season of the Church year, Easter deserves to be lived well and celebrated fully, and few voices speak more compellingly about Christian joy than Laura Kelly Fanucci, celebrated author and creator of The Holy Labor newsletter and the Mothering Spirit platform. “Living Easter celebrates joy itself as our Resurrection practice,” Fanucci writes. “Taking up joy as a daily discipline teaches us about feasting as a companion practice to fasting: an intentional sacred act that draws us closer to God."

Lenten Virtual Guest Speaker

Mallory Smyth is a Catholic Writer and Speaker. She currently has a podcast titled "The Gospel and ...."

Dear Friends, This Sunday we hear the beautiful and personal encounter of Jesus with the woman at the well, St Photini. Third Sunday of Lent Gospel: John 4:5-42 This passage formed and shaped the apostolate, but it continues to form and shape each one of us every time we join in mission to grow in Faith and build community. The passage begins so simply: "Give me a drink" Jesus is tired and thirsty. He comes to the well at noon - the hottest part of the day. A woman arrives alone, and instead...

Dear Reader, In this Sunday's Gospel (Matthew 5:13-16), Jesus speaks words that are both simple and deeply reassuring: "You are the salt of the earth.... you are the light of the world." Jesus does not say you should be or you might become -- He says you are. Right where you are, in the midst of our ordinary days, God is already at work through us. Often, we think that faith has to be loud or extraordinary. But Jesus reminds us that his light shines through the small, faithful acts: the...

DearReader, In this Sunday's Gospel, John the Baptist sees Jesus approaching and proclaims, "Behold, the Lamb of God" Many of us are in seasons filled with questions: about relationships, work, faith, and whether what I am doing is enough. This Sunday's Gospel reassures us that uncertainty does not mean absence. God often reveals Himself gradually, as we learn to notice where the Spirit is already at work For women and mothers, much of life is lived in the ordinary: caring for others,...
